Astros and Diamondbacks get back on track.
The
Houston Astros and Arizona Diamondbacks have made their respective league
championship series interesting after the last couple of days. Let’s take a
look at how both these teams were able to do this.
Texas Rangers vs. Houston Astros:
After losing the first two games of the series at their home ballpark, the
Astros have bounced back and won two of the first three games in Arlington. The
Astros offense seems to have found their stride as they have scored 18 runs over
their last two games. Astros outfielder Mauricio Dubon started the last two
games for Houston, and he caught fire, collecting five hits and playing stellar
defense. Texas’s pitching has been an issue during these last two games,
surrendering seven runs in the first three innings of each games combined. One
bright spot for the Rangers has been shortstop Corey Seager, who has continued
to tear the cover off the baseball, improving his postseason average to .355
after last night's contest. Game Five is slated for Friday afternoon at 5:07EST.
It will be a rematch of the Game One starter for each team. Justin Verlander
(1-1, 1.42ERA) for Houston, and Jordan Montgomery (2-0, 2.08ERA) for Texas.
Arizona Diamondbacks vs Philadelphia
Phillies: The Diamondbacks won their first game of the series on Thursday night
after second baseman Ketel Marte played hero and won the game on a walk-off
single for the snakes. Arizona’s starting pitcher, rookie Brandon Pfaadt, was
stellar, going five and two thirds' innings, only allowing two hits, and striking
out nine. Phillies starter Ranger Suarez was also brilliant, going five and a
third innings, allowing three hits, and striking out seven. For the first time in
the postseason, the Phillies were held scoreless through the first five innings
of a game. Philadelphia’s lone run came from a wild pitch in the top of the 7th
inning. Arizona answered right back in the bottom half of the seventh, with an
RBI double from outfielder Lourdes Gurriel Jr. As for the hero Marte, the walk-off
single capped his excellent 3 for 5 night at the plate, to raise his postseason
average up to .371. Game Four is set for Friday night at 8:07EST. Both teams
will be going with a bullpen game, as left-hander Christopher Sanchez (0-0, 0.00ERA)
will get the nod for Philadelphia. Left-handed Joe Mantiply (2-0, 9.00ERA) will
get the start for Arizona.
